Aulig Kingdom: Arcs of Government by Historian J.P. Kirik; A. 360
Overview
Aulig Kingdom operates on a pseudo-parliamentary democratic legislature in which voting power—the “decrees”—of all members adds up to exactly 360. There are two major categories of this distribution: Kingdom, and People.
“Kingdom Decrees” are equal to ⅔ (240) of the total 360 and originate from the two founding Great Arcs of Aulig, Kredit and Markeer; who decided to evenly share control of the new kingdom formed from their two tribes.
The remaining 120 decrees are known as “Decrees of the People”; Each of the original 120 households received 1 decree of voting power. The voting power for the Decrees of the People therefore, can be described as an equal distributed amongst all official households in Aulig.
Any major decisions concerning the Kingdom therefore must be made with the ascent of at least a 50% decree- that is: at least 180 decree votes in favor.
Current Age
The Kingdom Decrees of Kredit and Markeer were passed down to their respective children until, throughout generations of house-absorption, the formation of “political brokerages”, alliances and deals; the distribution of Kingdom power became a convoluted mess best left to political historians such as yours truly. If you’re reading this, any history checks made about Aulig history can be rolled with advantage. A pseudo-parliament then naturally formed based on the percentage of decrees a household held. Households Kredit and Markeer, tracing direct roots to the original Great Arcs, hold 25.2 (10.5%K), and 24.48 decrees (10.5%K) respectively- The remaining 190.32 (89.8%Kingdom) is technically divided among 7 other major households and several smaller, but tracing every loyalty and traded out decree percentage is nearly impossible.
The 120 Decrees of The People are evenly distributed amongst all households who are officially registered with the kingdom in a manner that mostly correlates to a standard direct democracy. As an example, if there were 240 registered households each house would have 0.5 decrees of voting power, in other words a 0.139% say in government affairs.
Political Brokerages
To further complicate matters, families that fall upon hard times may choose to “lease” their decrees to other households, or interests for a given sum of money. This happens with Kingdom Decrees as well, but at a much higher and more complicated level that I’ll cover in my separate work: “Day and Knight Trading”.
“I saw it with my own eyes, and let me tell you, being the oldest man in the village I’ve seen a lot of things with these eyes. In fact, just that morning I went to say “hello” to my grandson while he was tending the sows and I watched the land itself gobble them up. And you know, my father passed these pigs on to me and I passed them onto my son who passed them on to his son. Anyway, I saw the ground split right beneath them and took out the next 15 miles of field and over the next hill. But don’t you worry, we’ve prepared for this kind of thing, you see back when I was a young man a hole took out a few houses, well, not as big as this new hole, but you get the picture- so we’ve all moved our houses to Rocksfall Hill—Nothing bad’s ever happened in Rocksfall—Only thing left out the field is farmland and pigs- not so many pigs as before of course- given, the hole.”
The writing continues on for some time, in an increasingly cramped script...
Account was purportedly scribed by a beleaguered quillhand who’s only comment amended later was:
"Who picks the OLDEST man in the village to talk to first?”.
you actually deal more damage if you attack more than one enemy at once
She was of an average height, give or take several inches, and had hair that started at her scalp and went down by a measurable length. She had bluish-green auburn eyes that almost appeared a soft hazel in the sunlight.
There were several people who knew her by name and when they would call to her she would often respond with a "Yes?", or give some other form of ascent. She would dream of many things, or nothing at all, and had hopes that she would speak of to others, while some of which she would speak of to none.
She had a childhood, and parents- as would frequently be the case for someone like her. Then one day upon reaching adulthood and entering a certain period of life, somewhere between her early 20s and late 90s, a series of event occurred. These events would be formative, and of such great detail as to require their own descriptions.
The Aulig Calendar was created in Aulig 1 ...fittingly—Each year divided into 360 days. Within the past 200 years several other kingdoms have adopted this calendar, which has since made distant trade and travel much easier to coordinate.
However each Kingdom has also adopted the standard of counting up since their formation. For example, the year Aulig 15 is equivalent to the year Kai 106; Both of which, by extrapolation, could refer to the year Vertess -70, Vertess of course only being officially formed in Aulig 85.
If this sounds even the slightest bit confusing. Yes— It is.
